Professional Open-Back Reference Headphones

The Audio-Technica ATH-R30x are professional open-back over-ear reference headphones bundled with a sturdy desktop stand for convenient storage. They deliver accurate sound reproduction through 1.57 inch (40mm) drivers with a wide 15 to 25,000 Hz frequency response. The open-back design allows sound to flow naturally from the drivers for clear, detailed audio with minimal distortion. An adjustable headband and soft velour earpads ensure comfort during extended listening sessions.

Home Studios and Emerging Audio Professionals

These headphones suit home studios and emerging audio professionals seeking a natural, immersive soundstage for critical listening and mixing. The open-back architecture provides spacious audio with depth and realism that benefits reference work. Buyers needing noise isolation for tracking or recording in loud environments should consider closed-back alternatives instead. The design prioritises accurate reproduction over bass-heavy enhancement for casual entertainment.

40mm Drivers and Wide Frequency Response

The 40mm drivers cover a 15 to 25,000 Hz range, comfortably handling detailed midrange and extended treble required for professional reference monitoring. The open-back design delivers a wide soundstage with natural clarity achieved through meticulous transducer design rather than heavy tuning. Bass-heavy productions or users requiring sub-bass extension below 15 Hz may find the low-frequency headroom limited compared to larger driver implementations.

Questions about this item

Do I need a headphone amplifier or audio interface to drive these 40 mm drivers properly?

The 15–25,000 Hz frequency response and 40 mm drivers work with most studio interfaces and portable players; a dedicated amp is not required but can improve dynamics at higher volumes.

Will the open-back design let sound leak into a microphone I keep on my desk?

Yes, the open-back architecture allows audio to escape naturally, so nearby microphones will pick up playback unless you lower the volume or increase mic distance.

How can I verify the 15–25,000 Hz range is performing as intended after setup?

Play a calibrated frequency sweep from 15 Hz to 25 kHz and listen for smooth output without audible drop-outs or distortion at the extremes.
