Dual-monitor KVM switch for two desktops

This AUTYUE KVM switch connects two desktop computers to two monitors, sharing one keyboard, mouse and up to four USB 3.0 peripherals. It supports video up to 8K at 60 Hz and 4K at 144 Hz via HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4. A 12 V power adapter, two USB 3.0 cables and a wired desktop controller are included. The unit measures 5.12 by 2.48 by 1.18 inches.

Suits dual-PC workstations.

The switch is built for desktop PCs that each provide one HDMI port, one DisplayPort port and one USB-A port. Laptops, tablets and Apple computers cannot use extended desktop mode with this device. Buyers who need simultaneous output from both computers, or who want to drive two monitors from a single-port laptop, should look elsewhere.

Straight-through DP-to-DP and HDMI-to-HDMI routing

Each computer must connect to both the DisplayPort input A and the HDMI input B to drive both monitors; the switch routes DisplayPort A in to DisplayPort A out and HDMI B in to HDMI B out. Only one computer’s video and USB signals are active at a time, selected by the front button or the wired remote. USB 3.0 peripherals function only when the active computer’s USB cable is plugged in.

Questions about this item

Does the package include all the cables needed to connect two desktop PCs and two monitors, or must I buy extra cables?

The box contains the KVM switch, two USB 3.0 cables, a wired desktop controller, a 12 V power adapter and a user manual. You will still need to supply one HDMI cable and one DisplayPort cable for each computer, plus a USB-A cable for each computer to enable the four shared USB 3.0 ports.

I see HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 listed — which port should I use if I want 4K at 144 Hz on both monitors?

Both HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort 1.4 support 4K at 144 Hz, so either interface will deliver that refresh rate. Remember the switch routes DisplayPort input A straight to DisplayPort output A and HDMI input B straight to HDMI output B; you cannot cross the signals between the two ports.

The headline says 8K at 60 Hz — will I actually see 8K on my monitors when the switch is in a real dual-PC setup?

Yes, provided each desktop has a graphics card capable of 8K at 60 Hz over HDMI 2.1 or DisplayPort 1.4, you use certified 8K cables, and both monitors support 8K at 60 Hz. The switch itself passes the signal through without compression, but the source and display must both be able to drive that resolution.
