1TB NVMe SSD for MacBook Pro 13 A1708
This NVMe solid-state drive replaces the original storage in MacBook Pro 13-inch A1708 models from 2016 and 2017 with EMC 2978 or 3164. It fits Non-Touch Bar variants only and uses the Apple original interface without adapters.
macOS 10.13 minimum firmware requirement
The drive requires macOS 10.13 High Sierra, 10.14 Mojave, 10.15 Catalina or a later version installed before fitting. These releases include the EFI firmware update that allows the system to recognise the NVMe device; without the update the SSD will not be detected.
PCIe Gen3.0x4 speed ceiling
Sequential reads reach 2500MB/s and writes reach 2000MB/s over the PCIe Gen3.0x4 link, which is the maximum throughput this interface generation can deliver. Buyers needing higher bandwidth must choose a system with a newer controller.

Questions about this item
Is this SSD the right fit for my MacBook Pro 13" A1708 from 2016 or 2017?
Yes, it matches the A1708 model with EMC 2978 or 3164, but only for Non-Touch Bar versions. Both the model number and EMC must match exactly.
What do the 2500 and 2000 MB/s figures mean for everyday use?
They are peak sequential read and write speeds over the NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 link. Real-world boot, app launch and file copy times will be lower but still much faster than the original drive.
Does the PCIe 3.0 x4 interface limit the drive in this MacBook?
The drive uses the Mac's original NVMe PCIe 3.0 x4 connection with no adapter needed. The slot caps throughput at that generation's maximum, so the SSD runs at its rated 2500 MB/s read and 2000 MB/s write ceiling.
