Dual-port 10GBase-X SFP+ card

This Axiom 430-3815-AX network card adds two 10 Gbps optical-fibre ports to a server through a PCI Express 2.0 x8 slot. It targets administrators who need to upgrade rack-mount systems with high-speed connectivity without replacing the host platform.

PCIe 2.0 x8 bandwidth ceiling

The host interface runs at PCI Express 2.0 x8, so the card cannot exceed the throughput ceiling of that generation even if faster transceivers are fitted. Builders planning to saturate both ports simultaneously should verify that the server chipset and slot allocation provide the required lanes.

SFP+ transceiver choice decides reach

Only the SFP+ modules installed in the two cages determine the supported fibre type, wavelength and link distance; the card itself imposes no distance limit. Buyers who need copper twinax or extended single-mode reach must select the appropriate transceiver separately.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the dual-port SFP+ version or a single-port model?

This card provides two SFP+ ports for 10GBase-X optical links. A single-port model would halve the available connections.

What throughput will I actually see with the PCI Express 2.0 x8 host interface?

The x8 slot delivers up to 4 GB/s per direction, so the dual 10 Gb/s ports can run at line rate without bottleneck.

Does the SFP+ slot limit which optical modules I can use?

The SFP+ cages accept any standard SFP+ transceiver rated for 10GBase-X over optical fiber.
