40 km Reach and Single-Mode Operation

The optical budget suits typical attenuation and splice loss on a 40 km path; beyond that distance the received power drops below the receiver sensitivity and errors increase. It does not support multi-mode fibre or shorter-reach standards such as LX or SX.
