16 GB DDR3 1333 dual-channel SO-DIMM kit for 2011 iMac 21.5 and 27 inch models
This kit supplies 16 GB of DDR3-1333 memory in two 8 GB modules built to the 204-pin SO-DIMM form factor. It is intended for owners of the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac models released in mid-2011 who want to maximise the memory capacity those systems can accept.
The upgrade is worthwhile when the existing modules limit multitasking or prevent the Mac from reaching its supported 16 GB ceiling. If the machine already runs 16 GB of DDR3-1333, this kit adds no benefit.
The SO-DIMM slots are accessed by removing the RAM access panel on the underside of the iMac; no tools beyond a Phillips screwdriver are required. The most common issue is inserting a module at an angle so the 204-pin edge connector does not seat fully, which causes the system to recognise only one stick or fail to boot.

Yes, the 204-pin DDR3 SO-DIMM form factor matches the slots used in both the 21.5-inch and 27-inch iMac models from Mid 2011.
Insert each module at an angle until the gold contacts are fully hidden, then press down firmly until the side clips click into place; the click confirms the module is locked.
No firmware updates are required; the modules are passive components with no moving parts, so they do not wear out and typically last for the life of the iMac.
