A 1.25" single-beam laser collimator with 1mW output and etched grid screen for precise Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain alignment
The Baader Laser Colli Mark III is a single-beam collimator built for Newtonian and Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector telescopes. It fits any 1.25" eyepiece holder, giving astronomers a direct way to align primary and secondary mirrors for sharper planetary and deep-sky views.
The device draws power only from its internal cell to run a 1mW laser, so it adds no heat, vibration or fan noise to the optical tube. The bright red beam remains easy to follow against a twilight sky or in a dim observatory, letting you centre the return spot on the etched grid without straining your eyes.
No adapters are required; the collimator seats directly in the focuser drawtube of any telescope that accepts 1.25" eyepieces. Its compact length leaves ample back-focus for Barlow lenses or cameras, and the clear grid screen provides an upright reference that speeds up the final fine-tuning step.
Measured against everything we stock in Binoculars, Scopes & Sights, at today’s prices. Recalculated every night.

Insert the collimator into the 1.25" eyepiece holder and secure the compression ring or set-screws evenly so the body sits square; the common mistake is tightening one screw first, which tilts the beam and gives a false reading.
The 1 mW laser diode will eventually dim; plan to replace the button-cell batteries when the etched grid screen becomes hard to see in ambient light.
Extended use drains the button cells, causing the beam to fade and the grid reference to lose contrast before any thermal drift occurs.
