  • Totally enclosed fan-cooled enclosure resists dust and moisture

Motor design and intended use

The Baldor-Reliance L3408 is a single-phase general purpose motor with a capacitor-start/run design. It delivers 1/2 hp at a nameplate speed of 3,600 RPM and operates on 115/230V AC at 60 Hz. The 48 frame size suits standard industrial mounting patterns.

Continuous duty performance

Rated for continuous duty with a 1.25 service factor, the motor sustains full-load output without time limits. Full-load current draws 3.5 A at nameplate voltage. The design is usable at 208V but not at 200V, and it has no built-in thermal protection.

Thermal and electrical characteristics

Maximum ambient temperature is 40 Degrees C. Insulation class B supports the continuous duty cycle. The totally enclosed fan cooled enclosure manages heat without external ventilation. Shaft rotation is reversible CW/CCW for installation flexibility.

Questions about this item

How loud and hot does the L3408 run during continuous operation?

The totally enclosed fan-cooled enclosure dissipates heat without external airflow, and the motor carries a 1.25 service factor for sustained loads at up to 40 °C ambient.

What power supply and wiring must already be in place for the L3408?

A single-phase 115 V or 230 V AC circuit rated for at least 3.5 A full-load current, with overload protection sized to the 1.25 service factor.

Will the L3408 bolt onto my existing 48-frame mounting and couple to a 208 V feed?

Yes — the 48 NEMA frame matches legacy mounts, the shaft rotates CW or CCW, and the nameplate lists 208 V as usable while 200 V is not.
