The Baldwin PIR motion sensor light socket screws into any standard E26 or E27 bulb socket and accepts a bulb up to 60 W. It uses infrared detection to switch the light on when motion is sensed up to 10 feet away and turns it off automatically after a user-set delay of 10 seconds to 5 minutes. No wiring is required; installation is completed by simply screwing the adapter into the existing socket and the bulb into the adapter.

This adapter suits homeowners who want automatic illumination in basements, garages, wardrobes, storerooms, staircases or front porches without hiring an electrician. It is not for fixtures mounted higher than 10 feet, for lamps with shades that block the sensor, for horizontal mounting, for outdoor lanterns with glass enclosures, or for loads exceeding 60 W such as high-power LED panels or heat lamps.

Infrared detection requires clear line of sight

The sensor operates on passive infrared technology and cannot detect motion through glass or other obstacles, so it will not function inside enclosed outdoor lanterns or behind any translucent cover. It must be installed vertically with the sensor facing downward and the ambient light threshold can be adjusted between 3 and 2000 lux to prevent daytime activation.
