MH-48A6J DTMF Microphone

The MH-48A6J is a DTMF microphone built for Yaesu mobile transceivers. It fits a wide range of models from the FT-1500 series through the FT-8900R series. The unit is designed for comfortable handling during extended operating sessions. It ships new and ready for immediate installation.

Replaces legacy Yaesu hand microphones

This microphone replaces original equipment handsets for models including the FT-1500, FT-1802, FT-1807, FT-1900, FT-2600, FT-2800, FT-2900, FT-3000, FT-7100, FT-7800, FT-8100, FT-8500, FT-8800 and FT-8900 families. The upgrade is worthwhile when the original microphone cable has failed or the DTMF keypad has become unreliable. It is not suited for radios that require a different connector pinout or proprietary digital microphone protocol.

Simple plug-in installation

Installation consists of plugging the modular connector into the radio front panel; no tools or soldering are required. The reinforced cable resists fatigue from repeated flexing in mobile environments. The most common issue is selecting the wrong microphone for a similar-looking Yaesu model with an incompatible wiring scheme; verify the exact model number before ordering.

Questions about this item

What connector does the MH-48A6J microphone use to plug into my Yaesu FT-2800M radio?

The microphone uses the standard Yaesu 8-pin modular connector that fits the FT-2800M and all other listed models without an adapter.

How do I install the MH-48A6J microphone, and what common mistake should I avoid?

Align the 8-pin plug with the radio's front-panel jack and press straight in until it clicks; forcing it at an angle bends the delicate pins.

Will the coiled cable on the MH-48A6J need replacement after heavy daily use?

The cable is built with strong, flexible conductors rated for repeated stretching; inspect it yearly for wear at the strain reliefs.
