Hostage Silhouette Target

The Birchwood Casey 47440 Hostage Silhouette target measures 22 inches and is designed for shooting practice scenarios. It includes a 6-inch Marksman paddle component for additional aiming drills. The unit is constructed from AR500 steel for durability against repeated impacts. This target suits shooters wanting a hostage-rescue style silhouette with a reactive paddle element.

AR500 Steel Construction

The target uses AR500 steel rated at 500 Brinell hardness to withstand handgun and rifle rounds without significant deformation. Its two-piece base design allows the silhouette and paddle to react independently when struck. No moving parts require lubrication or maintenance during normal range sessions. The steel surface handles standard outdoor exposure without special coatings.

Two-Piece Base System

The target ships as a single unit containing both the hostage silhouette and the Marksman paddle on a shared base. The freestanding design needs only level ground and a safe backstop behind it. No mounting hardware, tools, or permanent installation are required for operation. The compact footprint leaves range space free for multiple shooting positions or additional targets.

Questions about this item

How is the two-piece base assembled for the 22" silhouette target?

The base ships in two pieces that bolt together to form a stable stand for the AR500 steel silhouette and paddle.

What maintenance does the AR500 steel target require after repeated shooting?

Inspect the 500 Brinell steel surfaces for pitting or deformation and repaint as needed to maintain visibility.

At what point does the paddle mechanism stop resetting reliably during sustained fire?

Heavy impact on the 6" paddle can bend the hinge pin, causing the paddle to stick instead of swinging back.
