A passive, port-powered serial splitter connects two RS-232 devices to one modem without switching or configuration
The Black Box EPXR15 is a passive adapter that lets two RS-232 terminals share a single modem connection. It requires no external power and works immediately after plugging in. The unit suits technicians who need simultaneous access to one DCE port from two DTE sources. Setup involves no software or configuration steps.
The splitter combines two 9-pin DTE ports into one 9-pin DCE port using a purely passive circuit. It handles standard RS-232 signalling without active buffering or signal regeneration. Cable runs beyond the RS-232 distance limit or high-speed synchronous modes will exceed the device’s capability. No external supply is needed for operation.
The defining specification is the passive, port-powered DB9 female-to-male arrangement that merges two DTE hosts onto one DCE modem port. Buyers who need active signal conversion, flow-control translation, or support for more than two host devices must choose a different product. RoHS compliance is confirmed for this unit.

Yes, the splitter combines two DB9 female DTE ports into one DB9 male DCE modem port so both terminals share the connection without switching.
Because the unit is passive and port-powered, a successful link shows normal RS-232 traffic on both DB9 female ports with no configuration or indicator lights required.
The splitter itself has integrated DB9 connectors and draws power from the serial lines, so no external power supply or additional cables are supplied or required.
