Extends four USB 2.0 ports up to 328 ft over CATx or LAN with plug-and-play operation
The Black Box IC408A-R2 extends a USB 2.0 link up to 328 ft over a CATx cable or an Ethernet LAN. A local unit connects to the host and a remote unit provides four USB 2.0 ports for keyboards, mice, printers, scanners or storage devices. It delivers up to 600 mA to downstream devices and works with Windows, Mac OS X and Linux without driver installation. Plug-and-play operation makes it suitable for industrial control, digital signage, classroom or meeting-room deployments.
Each unit measures 3.9 in wide by 3 in deep and 1 in high, fitting on a desk or in a shallow rack shelf. Two RJ-45 ports on each unit allow a direct CATx link or connection to an existing LAN infrastructure. A supplied USB cable links the local unit to the host computer and an included power adapter powers the remote side. The hardware complies with WEEE and RoHS 2 environmental standards.
Verify that the host computer has an available USB 2.0 Type-A port for the local unit connection. Confirm that the 600 mA power budget covers the combined draw of all four attached peripherals; devices requiring more current will need their own power supplies. Ensure a CATx cable run or LAN path does not exceed the 328 ft maximum distance. This extender does not support USB 3.0 or higher speeds.

The extender carries USB 2.0 signals at up to 480 Mbps over a CATx or LAN connection.
Each unit measures 3.9 inches wide by 3 inches deep by 1 inch high; no brackets or rack ears are mentioned in the package contents.
Connect the local unit to the host with the supplied USB cable, link the two units with a CATx patch cord up to 328 ft, plug the power adapter into the remote unit, then attach USB peripherals; the most common oversight is forgetting to power the remote side before connecting devices.
