What the cable does and who uses it

This Black Box active adapter cable connects a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 source device to an HDMI display. It supports laptops, tablets and smartphones that provide DisplayPort 1.2 Alternate Mode video output. The three-foot length suits desk or travel use where a short, direct link is preferred.

Resolution and protocol limits

Video output reaches 4K at 60 Hz with 4:4:4 chroma sampling. The link carries HDCP 2.2 and HDR metadata for protected and high-dynamic-range content. DisplayPort 1.2 Alternate Mode is required on the host port; the cable will not function with USB-C ports that lack video alternate mode.

Check your host port before ordering

Verify that your device’s USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 port explicitly supports DisplayPort Alternate Mode video. Ports labelled data-only or charging-only will not drive an external monitor through this adapter. No driver installation is needed on supported hosts.

Questions about this item

Is the 3 ft length right for my desk setup?

The cable measures 3 ft end to end, so it reaches a monitor on the same desk without excess slack.

Will 4K60 4:4:4 work on my laptop over USB-C?

Yes, the adapter uses DisplayPort 1.2 Alternate Mode to deliver 4K at 60 Hz with full 4:4:4 chroma when the host port supports it.

Does the HDMI end handle HDCP 2.2 for protected 4K streams?

The cable passes HDCP 2.2, so copy-protected 4K HDR content from services or Blu-ray plays without handshake errors.
