Four-Port USB KM Switch with Glide & Switch

The Black Box KV0004A-R2 is a new KM switch that lets one keyboard and mouse control up to four separate computers. It is built for operators who need to move instantly between systems without pressing buttons or memorising hotkeys. Finance desks, broadcast studios, public-safety centres and industrial control rooms are the typical environments. The unit ships with an external 12 VDC 1.5 A power supply that accepts 100 to 240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz.

Glide & Switch cursor crossing across four displays

Switching occurs automatically when the mouse cursor crosses a screen border, a feature the manufacturer calls Glide & Switch. True USB emulation keeps keyboard and mouse recognised on every port at all times. The console side provides two USB HID ports and two USB 2.0 Type A ports for peripherals, plus a single 3.5 mm audio jack. Each computer connects through a USB Type B port and a 3.5 mm audio input. No video signals pass through the switch, so each system must drive its own monitor.

Front-panel, hotkey and mouse switching options

Installation is a matter of connecting the four USB-B cables, the audio cables and the power adapter, then attaching the shared keyboard, mouse and peripherals to the console ports. An RJ-45 network configuration port and an options port allow integration with the Black Box Agility IP-based KVM system. Linux compatibility varies by application and is not guaranteed. The metal chassis measures 1.2 by 11.4 by 5.2 inches and weighs 2.0 lbs.
