On-camera shotgun microphone for creators

The BOYA BY-BM2021 is a wired super-cardioid shotgun microphone designed for on-camera use with DSLRs, camcorders and smartphones. Its directional pickup focuses on sound in front of the unit while reducing background noise, making it suited for vloggers, interviewers and mobile journalists who need clearer dialogue than built-in mics provide.

Check your device has a 3.5 mm mic jack

Before ordering, verify that your camera, smartphone or recorder provides a 3.5 mm microphone input. The box includes both a TRS cable for cameras and a TRRS cable for mobile devices, but devices lacking a dedicated mic socket — such as many recent phones — will require an adapter not supplied here. No batteries or phantom power are needed, so the mic draws power directly from the host device.

Lightweight build with passive operation

Weighing 63 g (2.2 oz) and measuring 6.6 inches, the reinforced ABS body adds minimal bulk to a rig and produces no self-noise from fans or electronics. Because it operates purely on plug-in power from the 3.5 mm jack, there is no battery to charge or replace, and heat generation is negligible during extended recording sessions.
