Purpose and fit

The Brocade E1MG-TX is a 1 Gbps RJ-45 SFP transceiver built for copper uplinks in enterprise switching fabrics. It slots into standard SFP cages to deliver 1000BASE-T connectivity over twisted-pair cabling.

Who it suits

Network engineers extending copper runs to 100 m will find it a direct fit for Brocade and Foundry gear. Buyers who need fibre links, faster than 1 Gbps speeds, or non-SFP form factors should look at something else.

Capacity and headroom

The module handles full-duplex Gigabit Ethernet traffic across standard Cat5e or better cable without errors. It runs out of headroom when the link demands multi-gigabit throughput or long-haul optical reach.

Questions about this item

Which host device slot is required for the E1MG-TX to operate?

The transceiver fits a standard SFP cage on a switch or router that accepts 1000BASE-T modules.

Will this module link at 1 Gbps when connected to a legacy 100 Mbps switch port?

Yes, the RJ-45 interface auto-negotiates and will establish a 100 Mbps link with older equipment.

How can I confirm the E1MG-TX is functioning correctly after installation?

Check the switch port LEDs for a solid link light and verify the interface reports 1 Gbps full-duplex in the management console.
