Flexible Copper Braid for Grounding
The Burndy flexible copper braid is a 12-inch grounding strap designed for commercial electrical installations. Tinned copper construction with ferrules on both ends provides a ready-to-use bond for panels, enclosures or equipment frames. It suits installers who need a listed, flexible conductor for stationary grounding points.
190 A Indoor and 225 A Outdoor Rating
The braid carries 190 amperes indoors and 225 amperes outdoors under the UL 467 and CSA listings. Tinned copper strands dissipate heat across the one-inch width while the ferrules keep contact resistance low at each termination. No forced-air cooling or special derating is required for normal commercial loads.
Two-Hole Ferrule Mounting
Each end has a standard tongue 2 1/2 inches long, 15/16 inches wide and 0.13 inches thick with two holes 0.44 inches in diameter spaced 1.25 inches centre-to-centre and 0.62 inches from the hole centre to the tongue end. The fixed hole pattern suits panels drilled to that spacing; it will not align with single-hole lugs or different centre distances.

Questions about this item
How do I install the 12 in grounding braid and which step is often missed?
Bolt the 0.44 in holes on 1.25 in centres to clean metal, torque to spec, and remember to remove paint or corrosion under each ferrule so the tinned copper makes full contact.
What maintenance or replacement will the braid need over time?
Inspect the tinned copper braid and ferrules annually for corrosion, loose bolts or broken strands; replace the entire 12 in assembly if the braid shows green oxidation or any strand damage.
What limit appears first when the braid carries continuous load?
The 190 A indoor or 225 A outdoor ampacity rating is the first limit; sustained current above that level will overheat the 1 in wide copper braid and ferrules.
