Electrical Inline Splice Reducer
The Burndy inline splice reducer provides a two‑port in‑line connection for stranded copper conductors from 6 AWG up to 500 kcmil and is also rated for aluminum conductors. Its clear Plastisol insulation and unplated aluminum body suit industrial and automotive wiring tasks that require a straight‑through joint without a tap.
UL‑Listed Connector Upgrade
This connector replaces non‑listed or lower‑temperature splices when a job demands compliance with UL 486A, UL 486B and CSA approvals for 600 V circuits. The upgrade is worthwhile when existing hardware cannot meet the 194 °F maximum operating temperature or when a hex‑drive 1/2 in installation is specified.
Sustained Load Behaviour
Under continuous current the aluminum body and Plastisol insulation maintain their mechanical grip and dielectric strength up to the rated temperature limit. The hex‑set screws resist loosening from thermal cycling, so the joint remains secure during long‑duration operation rather than only during brief test pulses.

Questions about this item
What conductor sizes can I fit into the two ports of this 6 AWG inline splice reducer?
The connector accepts stranded copper from 6 AWG up to 500 kcmil and is also rated for aluminum conductors.
How do I install this Burndy inline splice and which step is most often missed?
Strip each wire, insert fully into the ports, then torque the two hex-head set screws with a 1/2 in hex driver; the step most often missed is applying the correct torque so the connection meets the UL 486A and 486B listings.
Will the plastisol insulation on this splice need replacement after long service at high temperature?
The plastisol insulation is rated for a maximum operating temperature of 194 Degrees F; if the connector regularly runs near that limit, plan to inspect the insulation periodically and replace the splice if cracking or hardening appears.
