Ground clamp for copper pipe
This Burndy ground clamp connects a single copper grounding conductor to water pipe or copper tubing. It accepts solid or stranded wire from 10 AWG up to 2 AWG. The bronze body is UL listed to UL467 for commercial grounding applications. Installers use it where a reliable pipe bond is required.
Thermal and electrical performance
The bronze construction provides a low-resistance path for fault current without overheating under normal load. No moving parts or active cooling are present, so the clamp operates silently. Power draw is not applicable to this passive mechanical connector. The UL467 listing confirms it meets standard temperature-rise limits for grounding hardware.
Replaces older pipe clamps
This clamp replaces worn or non-listed pipe clamps on 2 1/2 in to 4 in pipe. The upgrade is worth it when the existing clamp cannot accept 2 AWG conductor or lacks UL467 certification. It is not for use with aluminium conductors, pipes outside the stated range, or installations requiring more than one grounding wire per clamp.

Questions about this item
How do I install this clamp on a 2 1/2 to 4 inch pipe and which step is commonly missed?
Position the bronze clamp around the copper pipe, insert the 10 to 2 AWG grounding wire, then tighten the mechanical connector securely; the step often missed is verifying the wire is fully seated before final torque.
What maintenance or replacement will this ground clamp need over time?
Inspect the bronze body and mechanical screw annually for corrosion or loosening; replace the clamp if the threads strip or the conductor shows oxidation at the contact point.
What limit appears first when this clamp carries sustained fault current?
The UL 467 listed mechanical connection to the 2 1/2 to 4 inch pipe will reach its thermal and mechanical rating before the 10 to 2 AWG copper conductor does.
