Purpose-built binocular

The Bushnell Explorer 10x42 is a roof-prism binocular with fully multi-coated, all-glass optics and BaK-4 prisms. Its IPX7 waterproof and fogproof construction survives submersion at one metre for thirty minutes. A lightweight aluminium chassis and rubber-armoured body provide shock resistance and a secure, non-slip grip for extended outdoor use.

Who it suits and who it does not

Hikers, birdwatchers and boaters who need bright 10× magnification in a compact, waterproof package will appreciate the wide 361-foot field of view and one-hand focus. Buyers who require image stabilisation, built-in rangefinding or night-vision capability should look elsewhere, as those features are not included.

Deciding specification

The 42-millimetre objective lens diameter sets the light-gathering ability and physical size, making this the key figure for deciding whether the Explorer matches your packing space and low-light requirements.

Questions about this item

Does the 10x magnification cause hand shake to blur the view after hours of use?

The 1.39-pound weight and rubber-armoured aluminium chassis keep the binoculars steady enough for all-day glassing without a tripod.

What must I already own for the 42 mm objective lenses to work?

Nothing extra — the binoculars are a complete optical instrument with no batteries, mounts or accessories required.

Will the IPX7 waterproof rating survive the same downpours my older porro-prism pair used to handle?

Yes — submerging at 1 metre for 30 minutes is the test standard, so heavy rain and splashes are well within the rating.
