Trailer Safety Chain — 42 Inch Class 4

The Buyers Products BSC3842 is a heavy-duty trailer safety chain built for towing applications. It uses carbon steel with a zinc-plated finish for corrosion resistance. The chain meets Grade 43 specifications and carries a 15,000 lb working load and assembly break strength.

Slip Hook Attachment Changes Connection Method

The included slip hook measures 2 inches wide and allows quick attachment to a trailer frame or hitch point. Its design lets the chain slide into place without a separate latch mechanism. This single-hook configuration suits setups where only one safety connection is required.

Grade 43 Carbon Steel Defines Load Limit

The chain’s 15,000 lb break strength is the practical ceiling for any tow load. Exceeding that rating risks failure regardless of hook condition. The 42 inch overall length fixes the maximum separation between vehicle and trailer, so longer drawbars need a different chain.

Questions about this item

How often should I inspect the zinc-plated carbon-steel links for wear or corrosion?

Check each link and the slip hook before every tow; replace the chain if any link shows elongation, cracking or heavy rust that the zinc coating no longer protects.

What is the maximum steady load the Grade 43 chain can handle without permanent stretch?

The working load limit is 15,000 lb, so sustained tension must stay at or below that figure to avoid permanent deformation.

Does the zinc finish prevent the chain from heating up during long days of towing?

The zinc plating resists corrosion but does not reduce heat; the chain will reach ambient temperature and friction from the slip hook may add slight warmth during continuous use.
