Connects a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 host to USB 3.1 Type-B peripherals such as external drives, docking stations and scanners at up to 5 Gbps over 6 ft
Cable Length 6 Feet
This USB-C to USB 3.1 Type-B cable links a host computer with a USB-C or Thunderbolt 3 port to peripherals such as external hard drives, docking stations or scanners that use a USB 3.1 Type-B socket. It is built for users who need a direct 6-foot connection without adapters. The gold-plated connectors and full shielding aim to keep signal loss low. It is not designed for smartphones or tablets unless they run a full Windows system.
The cable supports USB 3.1 Gen 2 signalling with a maximum data rate of 5 Gbps. It will not fit USB 2.0 Type-B ports because the connector shape is completely different. Video transmission is not possible over this cable. Docking stations, scanners and MIDI devices may require vendor-supplied drivers before they function correctly. Thunderbolt 3 and 4 hosts are compatible on the host side.
At six feet the cable reaches across a typical desk without strain, while the 5 Gbps ceiling handles mechanical hard drives and most docking-station traffic comfortably. Very high-speed SSD arrays or multi-lane PCIe enclosures will saturate the link, so throughput tops out at the rated 5 Gbps. The fixed length cannot be extended without adding another cable and potential signal degradation.

Other versions of this model
The supplier lists a single 6 ft cable. No other lengths are mentioned in the product data.
It is the maximum theoretical data rate of the USB 3.1 Gen 1 link. Actual throughput will be lower and depends on the host controller, the storage device and the file sizes being transferred.
The connection runs at USB 3.1 Gen 1 (5 Gbps). It also works with USB 3.0 Type B ports at the same 5 Gbps ceiling. It is not compatible with USB 2.0 Type B ports because the connector shape differs.
