Adapter converts IDE interface to connect SATA drives and optical devices
This Cables Unlimited R-FLT-7100 adapter connects Serial ATA storage devices to an existing IDE controller. It translates SATA mass storage commands into ATA/ATAPI protocol using a single chip solution. The cord lets you install SATA hard drives, DVD-RW, CD-ROM or CD-RW drives without adding a dedicated SATA host controller. It plugs directly into the IDE motherboard header for a simple upgrade path.
Builders maintaining older platforms can add modern SATA drives without replacing the motherboard. The adapter supports HDDs and optical drives that use the Serial ATA interface. It is not for users whose boards already provide native SATA connectors. It also does not serve anyone needing to connect an IDE drive to a SATA port, as the conversion works in one direction only.
The onboard controller handles protocol translation between the SATA device and the ATA host. This specific bridge architecture determines which drive types are recognised by the older controller. No external power input is described in the specifications. The adapter function is defined entirely by this integrated conversion logic.
