Product Identity
The Caiman 1816-4 welding gloves are personal protective equipment built for welders who need dexterity and flame-resistant coverage. They use Super Supple Genuine American Deerskin with a patented double-stitched palm padding and wear-patch. A large pulse protector and full sock-insulation with FR foam and fleece add thermal protection. Kevlar thread stitching reinforces seams throughout the glove.
Installation and Fit
The Kontour pre-curved finger design and form-fitting pattern let the gloves slide on quickly and follow natural hand movement. Exclusive Caiman loops on each pair accept the included 3-inch carabiner so the gloves stay together when not worn. No break-in period is required, though the deerskin will conform further with use. The only common issue is that flame-resistant foam and fleece can develop small holes from heavy spatter, as noted by the manufacturer.
Protection Limits
The FR foam and fleece insulation is rated for light welding, cutting and grinding where sparks are intermittent. When a spark lands, the material self-extinguishes but can still burn through under sustained heat. For continuous high-amperage work or heavy spatter, leather construction provides a higher level of protection than the FR layer alone.

Questions about this item
How can I verify the gloves are working as intended after first use?
Check that the Kevlar thread stitching holds firm, the deerskin remains supple, and the FR foam/fleece lining self-extinguishes when a spark lands on it.
What comes in the package and what must I supply myself?
Each pair includes the gloves with Kontour pre-curved fingers, double-stitched palm padding, wear patch, pulse protector, full sock insulation, and a 3 in carabiner that clips to the exclusive Caiman loops; no extra items are required.
Which version of the 1816-4 should I choose for light welding versus heavier work?
The 1816-4 is a single model built with FR foam/fleece for light welding, cutting and grinding; for heavier applications the note advises selecting leather gloves instead.
