Direct replacement for third-generation iPod

This Cameron Sino DS-CS-IPOD3XL battery fits the 10 GB, 15 GB, 20 GB, 30 GB and 40 GB third-generation iPod models. It matches the original 616-0159 and E225846 part numbers. The lithium-polymer cell delivers 3.7 V and 850 mAh capacity in a black housing.

Steady output across the discharge cycle

The Li-Polymer chemistry provides a stable voltage curve so playback time remains predictable from full charge down to the low-battery warning. Internal resistance stays low enough to support continuous audio decoding and hard-drive spin-up without sudden voltage sag. Capacity is rated at .85 Ah for consistent run-time.

Limited to the original dock-connector interface

Charging and data transfer rely on the legacy 30-pin dock connector used by these iPods. No USB-C, Lightning or wireless charging path exists on the host device. The pack’s 48.83 x 30.40 x 4.62 mm form factor fits only the third-generation battery compartment.

Questions about this item

How warm does the 3.7V 850mAh Li-Polymer cell get when the iPod plays music all day?

The slim 4.62 mm polymer pack stays close to body temperature during continuous playback because its internal resistance is low and the iPod 3rd gen draws only modest current.

Which screwdrivers and adhesive strips must I already have to swap the 616-0159 pack in a 20GB M9244LL/A?

A #00 Phillips driver, a plastic pry tool and a fresh 30.40 x 48.83 mm double-sided adhesive strip are the only items not included with the DS-CS-IPOD3XL.

Will the DS-CS-IPOD3XL fit the original battery cavity in a 40GB M9245LL/A without bending the logic board?

Yes — the 48.83 x 30.40 x 4.62 mm dimensions match the factory E225846 cell exactly, so the replacement sits flat in the 3rd generation 40GB chassis.
