Canon 2198C001 printing calculator 12-digit 3.7 lines/sec

What it is and who it serves

This Canon printing calculator prints positive numbers in black and negative numbers in red on a 12-digit VFD display. It runs at 3.7 lines per second for fast transaction logs. The unit includes profit-margin, currency-conversion, tax, cost, sell and margin keys plus a clock and calendar. It is aimed at office workers and students who need a permanent paper record of calculations.

Limits of the printing interface

The printer uses a two-colour ribbon and standard paper roll to produce hard copy. Speed tops out at 3.7 lines per second, so very high-volume batch printing will queue. Only a single paper roll is supplied in the box, and the ribbon is not user-replaceable without a separate cartridge. The display is fixed-angle and cannot be tilted or detached.

What to verify before ordering

Confirm you have a free mains socket, as the calculator draws power from AC only and has no battery backup. Check that the desk space can accommodate the 3.08 by 8.19 by 12.02 inch footprint. Ensure the red-and-black print format matches your record-keeping requirements, because the colour logic is built into the firmware and cannot be changed.
