The Canon EF 40mm f/2.8 STM is an ultra-slim pancake prime designed for full-frame and APS-C Canon DSLRs. On APS-C bodies it delivers a 64mm equivalent field of view suited to everyday photography and video work. Its stepping motor provides smooth, near-silent autofocus during live-view and movie recording. The lens accepts EF-mount cameras without an adapter.

Optical elements and coatings control aberrations

A single aspherical element reduces spherical aberration and distortion across the frame. Super Spectra coating suppresses flare and ghosting for better colour fidelity in high-contrast light. The seven-blade circular aperture produces rounded highlights when stopped down. These features improve both still-image sharpness and video rendering without extra accessories in the box.

Fixed focal length and aperture range set boundaries
