Immersive VR capture

The Canon RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens is the world's first digital interchangeable lens capable of recording stereoscopic 3D 180° VR imagery onto a single image sensor. It uses a folded optical design with two L-series fisheye systems and UD lenses to deliver a 190° field of view and 60mm interpupillary distance for natural parallax.

Camera and software requirements

This lens is part of the EOS VR System and requires a compatible Canon camera such as the EOS R5 updated with firmware 1.5 or higher. You also need a paid subscription to Canon EOS VR Utility or the EOS VR Plug-in for Adobe Premiere Pro for processing the captured files.

Workflow upgrade from multi-camera rigs

The lens replaces traditional multi-camera VR setups that demand syncing and stitching separate video files. The jump is worth it when you want to simplify production by capturing 8K DCI 30p or 4K DCI 60p stereoscopic 3D directly to a single file on one sensor.

Questions about this item

Does the RF 5.2mm F2.8 L Dual Fisheye lens ship with any accessories or must they be purchased separately?

The lens is supplied as a standalone unit; compatible EOS R5 camera body firmware 1.5.0 or higher and a Canon VR software subscription are required separately for the EOS VR System.

Which version of this dual fisheye lens should I choose for stereoscopic 3D 180° VR capture?

This is the only version available — a single 5.2mm F2.8 L RF mount lens with dual optical systems and 60mm interpupillary distance for natural parallax.

What does the 190° field of view mean when the lens is mounted on an EOS R5 recording 8K DCI 30p?

It delivers a 190° field of view per eye that closely resembles human vision, captured as stereoscopic 3D 180° VR imagery on a single sensor without stitching.
