Compact 600mm super-telephoto with fixed f/11 aperture, retractable barrel, and 5-stop optical stabilization
The Canon RF 600mm f/11 IS STM is a super-telephoto prime lens built for the RF mount. Its retractable barrel locks at a compact length, making long focal lengths easier to carry for wildlife or sports photographers who prioritise mobility over maximum aperture speed. The STM stepping motor provides quiet autofocus suitable for both stills and video work.
The lens operates at a constant f/11 aperture, which restricts low-light performance and shallow depth-of-field control compared to faster optics. Optical image stabilisation delivers up to 5 stops of shake correction, extending usable shutter speeds for handheld shooting. Autofocus speed and low-light sensitivity are constrained by the narrow maximum aperture and the camera body's AF system.
At 600mm the lens frames distant subjects tightly on full-frame sensors, ideal for birding or field sports from a single position. It accepts compatible RF extenders to increase reach further, though each extender reduces light transmission and AF performance. The fixed aperture means exposure settings do not change while zooming, but the f/11 baseline limits indoor or heavily shaded use without high ISO values.

Yes, the RF 600mm uses a fixed f/11 aperture; there are no other aperture versions of this model.
The fixed f/11 aperture requires brighter light or higher ISO, but the built-in stabilisation provides up to 5 stops of shake correction for slower shutter speeds.
The RF mount enables full communication with RF extenders, so you can add 1.4× or 2× extenders while retaining autofocus and stabilisation.
