Professional Super-Telephoto Lens

The Canon RF 600mm f/4 L IS USM is a super-telephoto prime lens built exclusively for the EOS R mirrorless system. It delivers a fixed 600mm focal length with a bright f/4 maximum aperture for shallow depth of field and low-light capability. The optical design matches the EF 600mm f/4L IS III USM while adding RF-native communication and control. It targets professional sports, wildlife and action photographers who need maximum reach and speed.

Specialised Reach for Distance Work

This lens suits photographers who regularly shoot distant subjects such as birds, wildlife or field sports from fixed positions. Its long focal length and wide aperture isolate subjects against busy backgrounds. Buyers who need versatile framing for closer subjects or wider scenes should look at shorter focal lengths or zoom alternatives. Handheld users requiring lighter gear for extended trekking may find the size and weight prohibitive.

Optical Stabilisation up to 5.5 Stops

The built-in Image Stabilizer provides up to 5.5 stops of shake correction across three selectable IS modes. This allows sharp handheld results at shutter speeds far slower than normally possible at 600mm. The system is tuned for super-telephoto vibration patterns including panning action. Minimum focusing distance is 4.2 m (13.78 ft) for close-up detail on larger subjects. Compatible with Canon RF 1.4x and 2x Extenders for additional reach.

Questions about this item

Will the fluorite or Super-UD elements in this 600mm f/4 L lens need professional cleaning or recoating over time?

The sealed L-series barrel protects the fluorite and Super-UD glass; only the front fluorine coating ever needs gentle wiping, and Canon service can re-apply it if wear appears.

What stops me from hand-holding this 600mm lens at slow shutter speeds during a long shoot?

The 5.5-stop optical stabiliser (three modes) is the first limit; beyond its correction range, subject motion or photographer fatigue will blur frames before the lens optics do.

How warm does the image-stabiliser unit get and how much battery does it draw when active all day?

The IS gyros run cool and draw minimal power from the EOS R body; extended use adds no noticeable heat to the barrel and barely affects shots-per-charge.
