Plenum-rated fire-alarm cable with two solid 18 AWG copper conductors in a 1000 ft reel
This Carol 18/2 plenum communication cable is designed for fire alarm and life safety systems in commercial buildings. It meets NFPA 262 and CSA FT-6 Steiner Tunnel fire tests for plenum spaces and carries California State Fire Marshal approval. The cable uses solid bare copper conductors with premium-grade Flexguard PVC insulation and jacket. It is rated for 300 volts and NEC Article 760 Type FPLP.
The cable operates within a temperature range of 32 F to 167 F (0 C to 75 C), making it suitable for standard indoor plenum environments. Its voltage rating is fixed at 300 volts, so it cannot be used for higher-voltage power distribution circuits. The unshielded two-conductor design limits its use to applications that do not require electromagnetic interference protection. Compliance with Proposition 65 warnings is noted for California installations.
This cable replaces standard riser or general-purpose fire alarm wire when building codes require plenum-rated materials in air-handling spaces. The jump is worth it when local inspection authorities mandate NFPA 262 compliance for cables routed through ducts or ceiling plenums. It is not suited for projects needing shielded pairs, higher conductor counts, or outdoor burial ratings.

The 18 AWG solid bare copper conductors are rated 300 V and meet NEC Article 760 Type FPLP for plenum fire alarm circuits.
The cable is listed for 300 V at 75 °C and passes NFPA 262 and CSA FT-6 flame tests, so the voltage rating remains valid in plenum installations.
The plenum rating means the Flexguard PVC jacket meets NFPA 262 and CSA FT-6 Steiner Tunnel tests, allowing installation in air-handling spaces without conduit.
