Speaker cable for audio installations

Carol C1357.18.90 is a 500 ft clear speaker cable built for audio systems. The unshielded, stranded construction uses two 18 AWG conductors with PVC insulation and jacket. It ships on a reel in a box for convenient handling during installation. The cable is not fire-rated and carries no NEC article classification.

18 AWG stranded conductors

The single specification that decides fit is the 18 AWG stranded conductor size with 16 strands per conductor. This gauge determines the current-carrying capacity and voltage drop over the 500 ft length. Buyers who need a heavier gauge for longer runs or higher power levels should select a different cable.

Reel in a box for straightforward pulls

The reel-in-a-box package lets the cable pay out smoothly without tangling during pulls. Because the cable is unshielded and not fire-rated, it must not be used in plenum spaces or where local codes require rated communication cable. The clear PVC jacket makes polarity identification easy but offers no UV protection for outdoor exposure.

Questions about this item

What does 18 AWG mean for a 500 ft run in a real audio system?

18 AWG with 16 strands keeps resistance low over 500 ft, so speaker-level signals reach the load without excessive loss.

The cable is unshielded — what does that cap in practice?

Without shielding, the pair is fine for speaker-level audio but not for low-level interconnects where noise pickup would be audible.

With a 0.1 in outside diameter, what conduit or raceway size fits?

A 0.1 in diameter lets the cable pull through standard 1/2 in conduit or raceway with plenty of fill margin.
