Celestron Advanced VX 6 inch Newtonian Telescope with SkyPortal WiFi Module

SKU CH-CGEY-B8MJS

6-inch Newtonian reflector on a computerized German equatorial mount with 40,000-object database and WiFi module for astrophotography

  • 6-inch Newtonian reflector gathers ample light for bright celestial views
  • NexStar+ hand control with 40000-object database enables precise GoTo navigation
  • Advanced VX German equatorial mount provides stable tracking for high-magnification observing
  • Autoguider port and Vixen/CG-5 dovetail support astrophotography equipment integration
  • Parabolic primary mirror reduces spherical aberration for sharper edge-of-field images

Optical design and target user

The Celestron Advanced VX 6 inch Newtonian telescope uses a parabolic primary mirror with fully coated optics to gather light efficiently for visual astronomy and entry-level astrophotography. It suits observers who want a capable German equatorial platform that can develop with their skills over time.

Thermals noise and power

The mount operates on standard external power and runs tracking motors quietly during typical observing sessions. No active cooling or high-draw components are present, so thermal management is handled passively by the open tube design and ambient conditions.

Build integration and expandability

A Vixen/CG-5 dovetail bar and an autoguider port allow direct attachment of imaging accessories and guide cameras. The NexStar+ hand control with its 40000 object database and SkyPortal WiFi module enable wireless operation without requiring a separate computer at the telescope.

Questions about this item

How do I perform the initial polar alignment on the Advanced VX German equatorial mount, and which step is most often missed?

Use the All-Star Polar Alignment routine on the NexStar+ hand control; the step most often missed is re-centering the alignment star after the mount's first adjustment.

What maintenance will the 6-inch Newtonian reflector need over time?

The parabolic primary and secondary mirrors will eventually require collimation using the three adjustment screws on the primary cell, and the fully coated surfaces may need careful recoating after many years.

What is the first limitation I will hit during long-exposure astrophotography sessions?

The mount's periodic error is the first limit; enable permanently programmable periodic error correction (PPEC) to reduce tracking drift during extended exposures.
