All-Weather Outdoor Speaker

The CELUX AW 5500 is a wired outdoor speaker built with the same high-quality components found in Definitive Technology indoor models. It uses a 5.25" mid/woofer, a 1" tweeter and a 5" x 8" oval pressure-driven low-bass radiator driven by Balanced Double Surround System drivers. A fully sealed PolyStone enclosure provides moisture and wear resistance for patio, backyard or poolside installation. Galvanised steel brackets with 360-degree rotational flexibility allow horizontal or vertical mounting.

Sustained Outdoor Performance

The sealed PolyStone cabinet protects the driver array from continuous exposure to rain, humidity and temperature swings without degrading output. High-efficiency BDSS drivers maintain low distortion and broad dispersion even when volume is pushed for extended periods. The pressure-driven radiator reinforces bass response during long listening sessions so the sound stays full rather than thinning out over time.

Upgrade From Basic Outdoor Audio

This speaker replaces single-driver plastic enclosures that lack bass authority and weather sealing. The jump is worthwhile when you need accurate sound reproduction across a wide area and a mounting system that survives year-round exposure. Buyers who only need background music from a compact portable unit will not benefit from the larger cabinet and wired installation.

Questions about this item

How much heat or noise does the CELUX AW 5500 produce during continuous outdoor playback?

The speaker is passive and wired, so it generates no electrical noise or heat itself; any warmth comes only from the amplifier driving it.

What amplifier or receiver is required to power the CELUX AW 5500?

You need a separate stereo amplifier or receiver with speaker-level outputs; the AW 5500 connects via standard speaker wire to those terminals.

Can the CELUX AW 5500 be integrated with an older stereo amplifier that only has bare-wire terminals?

Yes, the speaker accepts bare-wire connections, so it works directly with legacy amplifiers that use spring-clip or binding-post terminals.
