A nano-sized USB 2.0 Bluetooth 5.0 + EDR adapter with Bluetooth SIG certification, supporting Windows 8.1/10/11 and Linux kernel 2.6.32–5.3
The censreal BT-8500 is a nano-sized USB 2.0 dongle that adds Bluetooth 5.0 + EDR to a desktop or laptop. It targets users who need to connect headphones, speakers, keyboards, mice or other peripherals without built-in Bluetooth. The single-chip controller combines baseband, modem and RF functions while supporting dual-mode BR/EDR and Low Energy operation. Buyers who require an internal PCIe card or a larger antenna for extended range will need a different form factor.
The adapter draws power directly from the USB 2.0 port and runs without a fan or heatsink, so it adds no audible noise to the system. Bluetooth 5.0 is specified to transfer data up to four times faster than Bluetooth 4.2 while saving energy, which keeps power consumption low during typical peripheral use. The compact single-chip design stays cool to the touch under normal workloads. No external power supply or active cooling is required.
During long file transfers or continuous audio streaming the link remains stable thanks to Bluetooth SIG certification and support for multiple Low Energy states. The controller handles LM, LL, L2CAP, GATT, RFCOMM, SPP and LE protocols without dropping back to legacy speeds. Compatibility covers Windows 8.1, 10 and 11 plus Linux kernels 2.6.32 through 5.3 on Fedora and Ubuntu. Drivers are available from the manufacturer website for ongoing support.

Plug the nano dongle into a USB 2.0 port; Windows 8.1, 10 or 11 usually installs the driver automatically, but Linux kernels 2.6.32 to 5.3 on Fedora or Ubuntu may need the driver downloaded from the Edimax website.
The adapter has no moving parts or batteries, so no routine maintenance is required; replacement is only needed if the USB connector is physically damaged or a future OS drops support for Bluetooth 5.0.
Sustained throughput is capped by the Bluetooth 5.0 specification and the USB 2.0 interface; the single-chip controller also shares bandwidth between BR/EDR and LE traffic, so heavy simultaneous transfers will slow first.
