What this adapter does and who it suits

The censreal Lightning to USB 3.0 Hub adds two USB 3.0 ports and a dedicated charging port to an iPhone or iPad. It is aimed at iOS users who want to attach a keyboard, mouse, flash drive or USB microphone while keeping the device powered. All three ports can operate at the same time.

Data-speed ceiling of the USB 3.0 interface

The two USB 3.0 ports support up to 5 Gbps transfer rates, which is ten times faster than the 480 Mbps limit of USB 2.0. The Lightning charging port carries power only and cannot move data. Actual throughput will depend on the connected peripheral and the host device’s own controller.

Check your iOS device before ordering

Verify that your iPhone or iPad model appears in the supported list — iPhone 6 Plus through iPhone 14 Pro Max, plus compatible iPad and iPod models. The hub draws power from the host, so very high-draw peripherals may not work without the charging port connected. No drivers are required; the adapter uses a built-in OTG chip for plug-and-play operation.

The hub provides two USB 3.0 ports and a dedicated Lightning charging port that work simultaneously, so you can connect a keyboard and flash drive while keeping your iPhone powered.

What does the 5Gbps transfer rate mean when I plug this into my iPad?

Does the Lightning port on this hub support data or only charging?

The Lightning port is for charging only and cannot transfer data; all data goes through the two USB 3.0 ports.
