Pistol-grip air screwdriver

The Chicago Pneumatic CP2780 is a pistol-grip air screwdriver built for general-duty fastening. It runs on compressed air at 90 psi and accepts 1/4 in hex drive bits. Free speed reaches 2,100 rpm with a maximum torque of 7 ft-lb.

Assembly and maintenance technicians

Technicians on assembly lines or in maintenance bays will find the ergonomic pistol grip and positive clutch suited to repetitive fastening. The tool demands a 3/8 in minimum hose and a supply capable of 29.7 cfm at full load, so shops without that airflow should consider alternatives.

10 cfm average air consumption

Average consumption is rated at 2.50 cfm over a 15 second run and 29.7 cfm at full load, with a 1/4 in NPT inlet. If the available compressor cannot sustain 29.7 cfm at 90 psi the screwdriver will not deliver its rated speed or torque.

Questions about this item

How do I install the CP2780 air screwdriver and what step do people often miss?

Connect a 3/8 in minimum hose to the 1/4 in NPT air inlet at 90 psi; the step often missed is verifying 2.50 CFM average at 15 second run time before full use.

What maintenance or replacement will the CP2780 need later?

The positive clutch mechanism and 1/4 in hex bit drive will require periodic lubrication and bit replacement as they wear from 2,100 RPM operation.

What limit appears first during sustained use of the CP2780?

At full load the tool draws 29.7 CFM, so compressor capacity typically becomes the limiting factor before the 7 ft-lb max torque is reached.
