Air-powered right-angle drill with 3/8" keyed chuck, 0.3 HP motor and 1,800 RPM free speed
The Chicago Pneumatic CP879C is a right-angle pneumatic drill built for mechanics and technicians working in tight engine bays or fabrication shops. Its 3/8 inch keyed chuck accepts standard drill bits for metal, wood and plastic. The reversing lever allows quick direction changes without removing the tool from the workpiece. A composite housing and rubber grip keep the unit light at 2.6 lb.
The air motor runs on 90 psi shop air and draws 5.3 CFM average during a 15 second run, rising to 25.4 CFM at full load. Planetary gearing and ball bearings keep vibration low during extended use. The composite body does not transmit cold to the operator’s hand like aluminium housings can. Exhaust exits through the handle rear, directing noise away from the user.
The single specification that decides fit is the 3/8 inch keyed chuck capacity. It limits the maximum drill shank diameter to 3/8 inch, so buyers needing 1/2 inch bits must choose a larger drill. The 0.3 HP motor delivers 3.2 ft-lb stall torque at 800 RPM free speed, suited to light structural and sheet-metal work rather than heavy steel drilling.

Attach a 3/8 in minimum hose to the air inlet, set the regulator to 90 psi, and add a few drops of air-tool oil before first use — the oiling step is the one most people skip.
Lubricate the motor daily with pneumatic-tool oil, drain the compressor tank to keep moisture out, and expect the 3/8 in keyed chuck jaws to wear before the planetary gears or ball bearings.
The 0.3 HP motor delivers 3.2 ft-lb stall torque; under sustained load the 25.4 CFM demand at 90 psi will exceed a typical compressor's recovery, causing speed to drop below the 800 RPM free speed first.
