Cisco Catalyst 9120AXE-E Access Point

This Cisco Catalyst 9120AXE-E is a Wi-Fi 6 wireless access point built for enterprise indoor environments. It supports 4x4 flexible dual-radio operation with 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz or dual 5 GHz configurations. The unit includes Cisco CleanAir technology powered by a dedicated RF ASIC for spectrum analytics and security. Embedded wireless controller functions simplify deployment and monitoring.

5.38 Gbps maximum data rate

The headline specification is a 5.38 Gbps maximum data rate delivered through 4x4 MU-MIMO and OFDMA on Wi-Fi 6. Flexible dual-radio mode allows two 5 GHz radios for high-density client loads or a traditional 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz split. CleanAir with the Cisco RF ASIC adds real-time interference detection and mitigation. Embedded IoT radios support BLE 5.0 and Zigbee for location services.

Ceiling or wall mounting with included hardware

Installation uses the supplied brackets and ceiling grid clips for standard drop-ceiling or hard-surface mounting. The unit weighs 4.75 lb and measures 10.5 in by 10.0 in by 3.75 in, so verify the mounting surface can support that load. Power is provided via PoE compliant with IEEE 802.3af/at; ensure the switch port supplies sufficient power budget. External antennas must be attached before mounting for optimal coverage.

Questions about this item

What does the 5.38 Gbps maximum data rate mean for real-world throughput?

The 5.38 Gbps figure is the theoretical peak across both radios using 4x4 MU-MIMO and OFDMA; actual client speeds depend on device capabilities, channel width, interference and distance from the access point.

Which PoE standard powers the access point and what does it limit?

The unit supports IEEE 802.3af and 802.3at PoE; the available power budget from the switch port determines whether both radios and all features can run simultaneously.

How do the 10.5 in by 10.0 in dimensions and included brackets affect ceiling mounting?

The access point measures 10.5 in x 10.0 in x 3.75 in and ships with ceiling grid clips and brackets for suspension-grid or hard-surface installation.
