Cleveland Cobalt M42 Tool Bit

The Cleveland C44590 is a cobalt M42 square tool bit built for machining hard metals. It serves machinists and maintenance shops that need a durable blank for custom grinding.

Practical limits of cobalt M42

Cobalt M42 steel resists heat and wear better than standard high-speed steel, extending tool life in demanding cuts. Its hardness makes the blank less forgiving if dropped or shocked during handling.

Capacity and headroom

The 1 by 1 by 7 inch blank provides ample stock for shaping lathe tools or form cutters. Material runs out once the profile is ground down to the minimum cross-section needed for the specific application.

Questions about this item

Is the 1 in square section of the Cleveland C44590 the right size for my tool holder?

The bit is a 1 in by 1 in square blank, so it fits holders made for that exact cross-section.

What does the M42 cobalt grade tell me about cutting performance?

M42 cobalt steel keeps a sharp edge longer in high-heat cuts, letting the 860-grade blank handle tough alloys without softening.

Does the non-bevelled 7 in length limit how I can mount the bit?

The straight 7 in length with no bevel gives full flexibility to grind any tool geometry and clamp at any depth.
