Cobalt double-end square mill with TiCN finish, 5/16 in. diameter, two flutes, 3/8 in. shank, 30-degree helix for finishing cuts
The Cleveland Golf HDC-2 is a square end mill made from cobalt steel for general-purpose finishing tasks. Its double-end design provides two cutting edges in one tool, extending usable life in milling operations. The 5/16 inch milling diameter and 9/16 inch length of cut suit a range of profiling and slotting work.
The TiCN coating increases surface hardness and wear resistance compared to uncoated cobalt tools, reducing built-up edge in sticky materials. This upgrade is worthwhile when machining abrasive alloys or running longer production batches where tool changes cost downtime. The coating also allows moderately higher cutting speeds without sacrificing edge integrity.
The fixed 3/8 inch shank diameter limits holder compatibility to collets or end mill adapters that accept this specific size. The 3-1/2 inch overall length restricts reach in deep cavities or when fixture clearances are tight. Right-hand helix and 30-degree angle optimise chip evacuation for standard milling but are not suited for left-hand spindle rotation.

The end mill has a 3/8 in. shank diameter, so it fits standard holders made for that size.
Clamp only on the shank, keep the 9/16 in. length of cut clear of the holder, and run right-hand rotation at the recommended speed for cobalt.
Replace it when the TiCN coating wears through, the 30-degree helix flutes show chipping, or the .000 in. corner radius no longer holds tolerance.
