16 GB kit of four 4 GB DDR2 400 registered ECC DIMMs for Dell PowerEdge SC1420 servers
This 16 GB kit contains four 4 GB DDR2 400 registered ECC DIMMs built for the Dell PowerEdge SC1420. Each module runs at 1.8 V with CL3 timing and a 240-pin interface. The registered buffer and dual-rank organisation suit server workloads that demand error correction and signal stability.
The upgrade swaps non-ECC or unbuffered sticks for registered ECC modules, adding data integrity and electrical load reduction on the memory bus. The jump is worth it when the SC1420 firmware requires registered DIMMs or when the application cannot tolerate silent data corruption. Systems that only accept unbuffered memory cannot use this kit.
Four populated slots deliver 16 GB total capacity, giving headroom for virtualisation guests, database caches and concurrent user sessions on the SC1420. The dual-rank density fills each channel efficiently, though the DDR2 400 ceiling limits throughput compared with later DDR generations. Workloads needing more than 16 GB or higher bandwidth will outgrow this configuration.

Yes, the four 4 GB modules are validated for the Dell PowerEdge SC1420 (1420SC) and use the 240-pin DDR2 form factor required by that system.
Populate the DIMM slots in the sequence shown in the SC1420 service manual; a common mistake is skipping the first slot of each channel, which prevents the registered signal from initialising.
Run the server's built-in memory diagnostics; persistent correctable ECC errors on a specific module indicate that stick should be swapped.
