8GB DDR3 kit for Late 2009 iMac

This 8GB kit contains two 4GB DDR3 1066MHz CL7 SO-DIMM modules built for the Apple iMac "Core 2 Duo" 3.33 21.5-Inch (Late 2009). It uses unbuffered non-ECC memory at 1.5V and fits the 204-pin slots in that system.

Replaces the factory 4GB configuration

The iMac ships with 4GB as two 2GB modules leaving two slots free. Adding this kit raises total memory to 12GB or you can fill all four slots to reach the 16GB maximum supported by the machine. The upgrade is worth it when applications run slower because the system is paging to disk.

Limited to DDR3 1066MHz and four slots

The memory controller in this iMac only supports DDR3 at 1066MHz so faster modules will run at this speed. There are only four SO-DIMM sockets in total and the maximum addressable memory is 16GB. Buyers who need more capacity or a newer memory standard cannot use this platform.

Questions about this item

Will these 204-pin SODIMM modules fit the two free slots in my Late 2009 iMac 21.5-inch?

Yes, the kit matches the iMac's DDR3 1066 MHz specification and uses the correct 204-pin SO-DIMM form factor for the two vacant slots.

What is the correct way to seat each 4 GB stick so the iMac recognises the full 8 GB?

Insert each module at a slight angle until the gold contacts disappear, then press down firmly until the side clips click — partial insertion is the common mistake.

When would I need to replace these CL7 1.5 V modules?

Only if a module fails; DDR3 SO-DIMMs have no wear-out mechanism, and the manufacturer provides a limited lifetime warranty.
