Industrial serial expansion
The CoolGear USB2-8COM-M connects to a single USB port and presents eight RS-232 serial ports to the operating system. It is built for engineers and technicians who need to attach legacy PLCs, meters, modems or industrial sensors to modern laptops or rack-mounted PCs that lack native COM ports.
Host-side requirements
Verify that your computer provides a free USB 1.1 or 2.0 Type-A port and runs Windows 7, 8, 10, 11, Linux or Mac OS 10.X. The adapter draws all power from the USB bus, so no external mains supply is needed. Each port appears as a standard Windows COM port without IRQ, DMA or memory conflicts.
Cable and protection included
A 0.9 metre USB cable is supplied in the box, allowing flexible placement of the SECC sheet-metal chassis. Every serial port carries 15KV ESD protection on the full RS-232 signal set including TxD, RxD, RTS, CTS, DSR, DTR, DCD, RI and GND, reducing the risk of damage from industrial electrical noise.

Questions about this item
Does the box include everything needed to connect the adapter to a computer, or do I need to buy a USB cable separately?
A 0.9 metre USB cable is included in the box, so no separate cable purchase is required for the host connection.
How do I decide between this 8-port model and a 4-port version if both are listed?
Choose this model when you need eight simultaneous RS-232 connections; a 4-port version would only provide half that number of ports.
What does the 921.6K bps figure mean when the adapter is plugged into a real machine?
Each of the eight RS-232 ports can communicate at up to 921.6K bps, limited by the USB 2.0 host link which runs at up to 480 Mbps.
