Scale and Subject

This 1/72 scale diecast model reproduces the Hawker Hurricane Mk.I flown by Squadron Leader Ian Richard 'Widge' Gleed of No. 87 Squadron at Colerne during 1941. It is manufactured by Corgi as part of The Aviation Archive series for adult collectors and military history enthusiasts. The officially licensed replica arrives in the manufacturer's original unopened packaging.

Dimensions and Materials

The model measures approximately 5.25 inches in length with a 6.75 inch wingspan, constructed from diecast metal and plastic for a heavy, realistic feel. Detailed exterior features include realistic panel lines, antennas, access panels and surface details that accurately represent the real aircraft. A display stand is included for shelf or desktop presentation.

Historical Specificity

The decoration depicts a specific aircraft and pilot from the Battle of Britain period rather than a generic type marking. Collectors seeking a different squadron, variant or pilot will need another release, as this model represents only the Gleed machine from No. 87 Squadron in 1941.

Questions about this item

How does the 1/72 scale Hurricane Mk.I compare in size to other 1/72 models I already own?

It shares the same 1/72 ratio, so its 5.25-inch length and 6.75-inch wingspan will match the footprint of any other 1/72 aircraft in your collection.

What visual details confirm the model represents Sqn Ldr Gleed's No. 87 Sqn 1941 aircraft correctly?

Check for the specific squadron codes and markings for No. 87 Sqn, the Colerne base details, and the realistic panel lines, antennas, and access panels shown in the 1941 configuration.

Does the box contain everything needed to display the Hurricane Mk.I, or must I purchase a stand separately?

The set includes a display stand in the manufacturer's original unopened packaging, so no separate purchase is required for display.
