Watercolor pencils for kids

This set contains 24 pre-sharpened watercolor pencils with a 3.3 mm core diameter. Children can use them dry for regular drawing or apply water to create watercolor effects. The non-toxic pencils are made from reforested wood and suit young artists exploring color mixing.

Dry and wet performance

When used dry the pencils behave like standard colored pencils for shading and texture work. Adding water activates the watercolor properties and allows colors to blend on the paper. The 3.3 mm core supports both detailed lines and broader washes without breaking under normal pressure.

Ready to use

Each pencil arrives pre-sharpened so children can start drawing immediately after opening the box. The wood casing sharpens easily with a standard pencil sharpener. The main issue is that heavy water application can warp thin paper, so thicker paper works better for wet techniques.

Questions about this item

Do the 3.3 mm pencil leads break or overheat during long drawing sessions?

These are wood-cased pencils with no electrical parts, so they produce no heat and cannot overheat; the 3.3 mm core resists breakage under normal hand pressure.

What other supplies are needed to activate the watercolor effects of the 24 pencils?

Only water and a brush are required; the pencils work dry for ordinary colouring, and adding water creates watercolor washes.

Can the 24 assorted colors be blended with older Crayola pencils already in my collection?

Yes, the water-soluble cores mix with other watercolor pencils and standard coloured pencils for combined dry and wet techniques.
