Super Light Gauge Strings

D'Addario EXL120 sets use 9-42 gauges for electric guitar players who want low tension and easy bending. The nickel-plated steel wrap wire delivers a bright tone and reliable intonation across genres. This 10-pack supplies enough strings for regular changes during heavy rehearsal or touring schedules.

Ten Sets For Extended Use

Each pack contains six strings gauged 9, 11, 16, 24, 32 and 42, giving consistent feel across the fretboard. The light top end reduces finger fatigue during long sessions, while the plain steel core maintains tuning stability. Players who prefer heavier tension for drop tunings will find these too slack for stable low notes.

Round Wound Nickel-Plated Steel

The round-wound construction provides a textured grip that supports articulate picking and smooth vibrato. Nickel plating resists corrosion from sweat, extending string life between changes. Ball-end loops fit standard electric bridge saddles without modification, letting you restring quickly between songs.

Questions about this item

Will the 09-42 gauge set work with a vintage tremolo that was set up for heavier strings?

The EXL120 set runs from .009 to .042 inches, so total tension is lower than heavier gauges; you will likely need to loosen the tremolo claw springs or add a spring to keep the bridge floating correctly.

How can I verify the nickel-plated steel winding is delivering the bright tone and intonation D'Addario promises?

Play an open string and its 12th-fret harmonic — they should match pitch exactly; the nickel-plated steel should sound clear and articulate without dullness or false beating across all six strings.

Does the Pro Pack include 10 individually sealed sets or one bulk coil, and do I need to buy string winders or cutters separately?

The Pro Pack contains 10 separate EXL120 sets, each in its own corrosion-intercept pouch; no winders, cutters or lubricant are included, so have those tools ready for installation.
