The D-Link DEM-421XT is a hot-swappable XFP transceiver built for 10 Gigabit Ethernet over multi-mode fibre. It targets network administrators upgrading enterprise switches or routers that accept XFP modules. The LC duplex interface connects standard OM3 or OM4 patch cables for short-reach links.

300 Metre Reach at 850 nm

Operating at 850 nm, the module supports full-duplex 10GBASE-SR links up to 300 metres on multi-mode fibre. It draws power from a 3.3 V or 5 V supply and functions across 0 to 70 °C with humidity up to 85 %. Beyond 300 metres the optical budget is exceeded and errors increase.

XFP Form Factor and 802.3ae Compliance

The transceiver follows the XFP multi-source agreement and complies with IEEE 802.3ae 10GBASE-SR plus 802.3x flow control. Its compact 2.8 by 0.7 by 0.5 inch footprint fits dense line cards. It cannot operate on single-mode fibre or reach distances defined for 10GBASE-LR or ER standards.
