48-port PoE managed switch

The D-Link DGS-3120-48PC/SI is a stackable Layer 2 switch with 44 RJ45 ports and 4 SFP uplinks. It delivers Power over Ethernet across all copper ports for devices such as access points and IP cameras. The Standard Image firmware provides QoS, traffic shaping and L2 multicasting for business networks. Physical and virtual stacking allows multiple units to be managed as one logical device.

Gigabit throughput and buffer limits

Each RJ45 port operates at 10/100/1000Mbps with a total switching capacity of 136 Gbps. The 64-byte packet forwarding rate is 101.19 Mbps and the buffer memory is 2MB. These figures define the practical ceiling for sustained wire-speed traffic across all 48 ports simultaneously. The internal universal power supply accepts 100 to 240 VAC at 50 to 60 Hz without external adapters.

Upgrade from unmanaged or non-PoE switches

This unit replaces unmanaged Gigabit switches that lack PoE, VLANs or SNMP monitoring. The jump is worthwhile when you need to power 48 endpoints from the rack, segment traffic with VLANs, or manage the stack through a single IP address. It is not for buyers who require Layer 3 routing, IPv6 features such as ERPS or Q-in-Q, or Enhanced Image firmware capabilities.

Questions about this item

Should I pick the Standard Image version or the Enhanced Image version for my network?

The Standard Image version supplies advanced QoS, traffic shaping, L2 multicasting and robust security features suitable for most business deployments.

What does the 136 Gbps switching capacity mean when the switch is fully loaded?

It represents the maximum aggregate throughput the fabric can handle across all 48 ports simultaneously.

How many devices can the four SFP ports actually connect at Gigabit speed?

Each SFP port accepts a 1 Gbps transceiver, so up to four fibre or copper uplinks can run at full line rate.
